Juice Buddy

Sick of having your kid knock over their drink and spill juice everywhere? is your child struggling to hold their juice boxes and getting sticky fingers? Look no further, Juice Buddy is here! Your child won't knock over their stable stubby friend, and there isn't a straw-struggle! Hold Juice Buddy's hands and have a fun time hydrating!
Research
I needed information before drafting up ideas. I wanted my liquid vessel to serve children, so I created personas to help me find the pain points in the juice-drinking experience. I then conducted market research to help me find a design opportunity and created a mood board and collected material samples to inform my design. I also looked at images to conduct an ergonomic study of how children handle juice containers. With all the information I have gathered, I created a list of criteria that I wanted this product to meet.
Ideation
Informed by the materials I've gathered, I started sketching up ideas for a 'liquid vessel'—in my case, a juice container.
Concepts
How would these ideas work? I narrowed down the sketches into a series of concepts.
Sketch Models
I then created sketch models out of newspaper and masking tape to help me define the form and narrow down on a concept.
Storyboard
I moved on with one of my concepts—what we now know as Juice Buddy—and sketched a storyboard of how he'd be used.
3D Model
I moved onto modeling the concept in order to better visualize it and to prep for creating a higher fidelity prototype.
Adjustments
Having a 3D model of Juice Buddy allowed me to continue making modifications. After some color and material changes—from red to pink and shiny to matte—I was left with a more playful and fun juice container!
Model
After knowing what Juice Buddy would look like, I made a higher fidelity model in PLA plastic via 3D printing. I then did a prime-paint process until Juice Buddy was smooth and colored. The straw is just a silicone straw.
Variations
Here are varied Juice Buddy designs that may create appeal to more kids. These designs in particular are Halloween-themed.
